Intro
In 2017, Jan Sapper, Paperlike's founder and CEO, developed and launched a screen protector for the iPad that became an instant hit with digital artists and notetakers.
Since then, we've come a long way.
Today, we sell professional accessories for iPad users worldwide through our Shopify store, Amazon, and retail stores. We've built a global team (25 amazing people from all over the world) and a brand that is well-respected in our community.
And that's where you come in. We've built a solid foundation with 250k+ followers across all social media platforms. Now we're looking for a Community Engagement Assistant to be the human voice in our inbox and comments, and the first point of contact for creators who want to try our products.
About this Role
This is a part-time role for someone who genuinely enjoys talking to people online. You'll be in our social inboxes five days a week, including weekends, making sure every DM and comment gets a response that sounds like us: helpful, direct, a bit nerdy. You'll also keep an eye on what people are saying about Paperlike across the web, and own the process of reaching out to new creators and getting them set up with free products.
The quality of the work lives in the details: a response that actually answers the question, a creator outreach message that doesn't read like a template, a Sprout Social inbox that's never more than a day behind.
What will you do as Paperlike's Community Engagement Assistant?
Community Management
- Respond to DMs and comments across Paperlike's social channels five days a week, including weekends
- Maintain Paperlike's brand voice across every interaction: conversational, knowledgeable, and never robotic
- Handle a range of conversations from product and shipping delays to tricky customers and enthusiastic fans, knowing when to solve it yourself and when to escalate
- Flag recurring themes, complaints, or questions that could inform the broader team
Social Listening
- Monitor mentions, tags, and relevant conversations about Paperlike across platforms via Sprout Social
- Surface notable UGC and tag content worth reposting or engaging with
- Keep a pulse on how the community is responding to launches, campaigns, and trending topics
Creator Seeding
- Identify and compile lists of potential creators to seed product to, based on fit with Paperlike's audience and aesthetic
- Own outreach to new creators: first contact, answering questions, and managing the back-and-forth until they're confirmed
- Coordinate the logistics of sending free product: tracking who's been contacted, what's been sent, and what's come back
- Keep the creator CRM organized and up to date
This role is for you if:
- You're a strong written communicator. You can adjust your tone to fit the context: empathetic with a frustrated customer, enthusiastic with a fan, professional with a creator, while always sounding like Paperlike.
- You're organized by default. A messy inbox or a creator who slipped through the cracks bothers you. You build systems to prevent that.
- You're comfortable with weekends. Checking the inbox five days a week including Saturday and Sunday is the expectation, not the exception.
- You're self-sufficient. You work well independently and don't need to be managed on the day-to-day.
- You're fluent in English, with excellent written communication skills.
- Experience with Sprout Social is a strong plus.
Who will you work with (mostly)?
- Kayla. Head of Brand Awareness, who leads social, creator programs, and marketing campaigns. You'll report directly to her.
- Elina. Our Partnerships Manager, who owns all things creator and brand partnerships. You'll coordinate with her on creator relationships and seeding campaigns.
- The Social Media Manager. Who owns the publishing calendar and social strategy. You'll be their right hand in the comments and inbox.
Money, Time & Position Type
- This is a part-time role: 15β20 hours per week. You can be based anywhere in the world, but we'd need you available for occasional video calls sometime between 9:00 and 17:00 CET.
- Hourly rate is β¬15β20, based on your experience.
- Either freelance (international) or employed (Germany).
The Company
Jan founded Paperlike in 2017 as a side project to solve his own need for a better iPad and Apple Pencil experience. Since he loves crowdfunding, he launched a Kickstarter for the Paperlike and was blown away by the response. He soon left his job and made Paperlike a full-time endeavor.
Now in 2026, we're a team of about 25 people. At our core, we still operate the same way: relentlessly focused on what matters, automating whatever we can to free our time and minds.
Our team is 100% remote, spread all over the world: from New York to Turkey, from Germany to China.
Our Core Values
π£ Small Giant
Paperlike is a small giant. We strive to be the best in our niche but are comfortable not reaching for the stars. We look for healthy growth with as few people as possible. We're thrifty, not cheap. We leverage technology to achieve our goals wherever possible.
π Ownership
We take ownership of the role we have and think like an entrepreneur. That means taking responsibility, self-organizing, and operating with a "get shit done" attitude. We are brave and take risks. We own issues and handle them.
π©ββοΈ Honorable & Human
We are honest and vulnerable and are proud of a safe work environment where everyone can be themselves. We care about mental health. We run a strict no-asshole policy. We're honorable. Our word and handshake count, and we put our action where our mouth is. We treat customers and partners as people, not numbers.
π Growth Mindset
We strive to be content, but we're never satisfied. We want to be the best in class. Continuous learning and being on top of trends is ingrained in our DNA. Bringing learnings into action is key. We use our creativity to solve complex situations and don't rely on standards.
FAQ
- What does the hiring process look like?
After submitting your application, qualified candidates will be invited to an initial interview.
- Why is this a freelance position outside of Germany?
Simply put: We're a German company, and it's much easier to work across borders with the best candidates using a freelance structure. The majority of our team works on a freelance basis. We're still one team and it doesn't feel like internal vs. external. If you NEED an employee contract, please let us know and we'll try to find a way.
