Video Editor

Intro

In 2017, Jan Sapper, Paperlike's founder and CEO, developed and launched a screen protector for the iPad that became an instant hit with digital artists and notetakers.

Since then, we've come a long way.

Today, we sell professional accessories for iPad users worldwide through our Shopify store, Amazon, and retail stores. We've built a global team (27 amazing people from all over the world) and a brand that is well-respected in our community.

And that's where you come in. We're expanding our YouTube presence with educational, value-driven content that helps iPad users get the most out of their devices. We're looking for a YouTube-savvy video editor who can turn our footage into engaging, retention-focused content that feels native to the platform.

About this Role

We're looking for a video editor who understands pacing, rhythm, and what makes YouTube content work. You'll edit two (2) long-form YouTube videos per month (approximately 10 minutes each) plus two (2) short-form vertical videos repurposed from that footage. This is a straightforward freelance editing role—you'll receive footage and briefs, deliver polished edits, and iterate based on feedback.

What will you do as Paperlike's Video Editor?

Video Editing

  • Edit two (2) educational, value-driven YouTube videos per month (approx. 10 minutes each) end-to-end
  • Edit two (2) short-form vertical videos for YouTube Shorts/Insta/TikTok per month from the same footage based on provided briefs
  • Shape edits for YouTube: pacing, structure, clarity, energy, and "watchability"
  • Add light text animations (simple kinetic text, callouts, emphasis captions, lower thirds)
  • Clean up audio, apply basic color correction, and maintain consistent polish across all videos
  • Deliver one round of revisions before final approval

Collaboration

  • Work directly with João (Creative Strategist) and Kayla (Head of Brand Awareness) for briefs and feedback
  • Communicate proactively via Slack about timeline, creative decisions, and revisions
  • Meet standard 5-day turnaround from receiving footage to first draft delivery, plus 1-2 days for revisions

This role is for you if:

  • You have a strong sense of YouTube rhythm: pacing, timing, comedic beats (when relevant), and momentum.
  • You're technically solid with video editing software (DaVinci Resolve preferred).
  • You can consistently deliver high-quality edits with reliable turnaround times.
  • You're a responsive and proactive communicator—you check in quickly, flag issues early, and ask smart questions.
  • You're fluent in English with excellent written communication skills.
  • You have a friendly, motivated, and collaborative personality.
  • Experience with YouTube-first storytelling (hooks, pattern interrupts, tighter mid-sections) is a plus.
  • Comfort with basic motion elements beyond text (simple zooms, punch-ins, subtle graphics) is a plus.

Who will you work with?

  • João, our Creative Strategist, who films all YouTube content and will be your main point of contact for footage and creative direction.
  • Kayla, our Head of Brand Awareness, who will provide feedback and strategic input on edits.

Money, Time & Position Type

  • This role can be filled anywhere in the world and is fully remote.
  • This is a freelance contractor position structured as a per-video payment model. You'll edit 2 long-form YouTube videos + 2 short-form vertical videos per month.
  • All content created for Paperlike is considered work-for-hire, with full ownership of edited content granted to Paperlike for use across organic and paid channels.
  • Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The Company

Jan founded Paperlike in 2017 as a side project to solve his own need for a better iPad and Apple Pencil experience. Since he loves crowdfunding, he launched a Kickstarter for the Paperlike and was blown away by the response. He soon left his job and made Paperlike a full-time endeavor.

Jan grew the business quickly with minimal outside help, using a laser focus and tons of automation, before bringing in additional help to continue scaling.

Now in 2026, we're a team of about 27 people. However, at our core, we still operate the same. We relentlessly focus on the things that matter and automate whatever we can to free our time and minds.

Our team is 100% remote and is spread all over the world — from New York to Turkey, from Germany to China.

Our Core Values

🐣 Small Giant

Paperlike is a small giant. We strive to be the best in our niche but are comfortable not reaching for the stars. We look for healthy growth with as few people as possible. We're thrifty, not cheap. We leverage technology to achieve our goals wherever possible.

👑 Ownership

We take ownership of the role we have and think like an entrepreneur. That means taking responsibility, self-organizing, and operating with a "get shit done" attitude. We are brave and take risks.

We own issues and handle them.

👩‍⚖️ Honorable & Human

We are honest and vulnerable and are proud of a safe work environment where everyone can be themselves. We care about mental health. We run a strict no-asshole policy. We're honorable. Our word and handshake count, and we put our action where our mouth is.

We treat customers and partners as people, not numbers.

💎 Growth Mindset

We strive to be content, but we're never satisfied.

We want to be the best in class. Continuous learning, and being on top of trends is ingrained in our DNA. Bringing learnings into action is key. We use our creativity to solve complex situations and don't rely on standards.
